THANK YOU NOTE
My name is Haley Lane, daughter of Steve Lane. I am writing this to thank you for the opportunity to receive the Local 450 Allan Hansen Memorial Scholarship. It helped me immensely and was very kind. I am starting nursing school in the fall and that scholarship money went straight towards my first semester. Your gift was amazing, and I am so glad that I was able to visit the Union and see what it was all about. I am grateful that my father has a Union willing to help him and his family! Thank you again!

RETIREES NOTE
Nominations were held at the August meeting for the open position of Recording Secretary due to Carol Shores resigning. Dennis DeJoode won by acclamation.
The next Retirees Luncheon will be a cookout held on Wednesday, September 13th at 12:00 Noon at the Union Hall with the menu of grilling hamburgers and hot dogs with sides; meeting to follow at 1:00 PM. No more potlucks; we provide the food.
The $25.00 door prize winners in August were Jerry Harmon and Dave Nelson. Don Apland’s name was drawn for the $325.00 progressive door prize from those Chapter members who attended the “Christmas in July” Party. Due to the motion made at the July meeting, the Progressive amount now starts over at $100.00/month and increases at $25.00/month if no winner. Danny Brown and Harry Trevarthen’s names were drawn for August’s Progressive Door Prize, but they were not present.
Note, John Deere is looking for Tour Guides at the Factory. If you are interested, contact Amy Streeter, Visitor’s Service Lead, (515) 289-8147 for more information.

CHAPLAIN CHAT by Curt Forney……
A man comes home while his wife is in the middle of ironing. He says to his wife, "Honey, I need to take a quick shower, but I am expecting an urgent call. Would you get it for me if they call?" The man proceeds to jump in the shower, and the phone rings and rings and rings. He quickly jumps out the shower soaking wet and grabs the iron instead of the phone and burns his ear. Well, at the hospital they ask, "What happened?" As the man tells the story they ask, "Well, how did your other ear also get burned?" The man replies, "Do you know that idiot called back twice?" I have to chuckle when I read this story. I’m not laughing at him but laughing with him because I can think of times where I have done foolish things (though I haven’t burned my ears... yet). We all have times where we acted too hastily or proceeded without giving the matter considerable thought. Someone once said, “There is a foolish corner in the brain of the wisest man.” Thankfully, foolishness doesn’t have to be a permanent condition. That’s why the Bible says, “Are you immature? Learn to be mature. Are you foolish? Learn to have sense.” (Proverbs 8:5; Good News Translation) I’m grateful that as long as I live, there is always opportunity to learn wisdom. Think about it.
