Bids were extended through November 15th. Pick up a bid form at the Committeeman's Office at the plant or stop by the Union Hall. The successful bidder will be notified at a later date. A TIME TO REMEMBER: THE STRIKE OF 2021
When there is such a diverse group of individuals as there are in the UAW, it is not surprising that many people remember the strike differently. Some remember first and foremost, those we lost. There were other things like the weather, the donations from the community, the hours spent at the Hall, the food that was cooked, the other Unions and political people who came and stood the line. The list could go on, there was sadness, and comradery, there were endless questions, and some answers. In those 5 weeks, there were great highs, and many lows. What did prevail, as had in the strikes that came before us, was that it was "US" against "THEM". We are the Union, we are Local 450, we are the past, present, and future. In Solidarity, my Brothers and Sisters.

UAW INTERNATIONAL ELECTION - ONE MEMBER ONE VOTE
Ballots to vote for 2022 UAW International Officers will start to be mailed mid-October, to your home address. Your home address must be correct at the Hall for you to receive ballot. Please return your ballot before November 18, 2022, to ensure receipt before deadline, according to the directions provided with ballot.

** VERY IMPORTANT **
FROM THE FINANCIAL SECRETARY-TREASURER'S DESK
Any member who had lost time wages working at the Union Hall this past year and was paid by Local 450 must turn in a copy of their Profit Sharing statement that you'll be receiving from Deere. We will calculate the amount of your Profit Sharing "Makeup" (if any) from your hours of lost time wages during the fiscal year. This will be paid out by December 31, 2022. Without a copy of your statement, the Local cannot calculate your "Makeup" pay.

RETIREES NOTE

The next Retirees Luncheon will be held on Wednesday, November 9th at 12:00 Noon with Chicken, Mashed Potatoes, Gravy and Coleslaw provided from Pizza Rach; Meeting at 1:00 PM. With the ongoing Covid-19 Virus, no Potluck will be held. We want everyone to be safe. DO NOT BRING FOOD IN unless it's in a store-bought prepared package/box.
The meeting in October was canceled. The $25 door prize winners in September were Gloria Wilkening and Delmar Nelson. Jerry Greenwell Jr. and Merrill King's names were drawn for the $75 progressive prize, but they were not present. Next progressive will be $125.

CHAPLAIN CHAT by Curt Forney......
Billy Martin told a story in his autobiography Number One, about when he and Mickey Mantle went hunting. Mickey had a friend who would let him hunt on his big ranch in Texas. When they reached the ranch, Mickey told Billy to wait in the car while he went inside to get permission to hunt. The rancher told Mickey, "Sure, but would you do me a favor first. I have an old mule that's going blind in the barn, would you mind shooting him for me and put him out of his misery?" "Sure," Mickey said. Mickey decided to play a trick on Billy. When he got back to the car, he slammed the door and said "I'm so mad at that guy. He won't let us hunt. I'm going out to the barn and shoot his mule!" Martin protested, "We can't do that!" But Mickey was adamant. "Just watch me," he shouted. Mantle got his gun and ran into the barn and shot the mule. As he was turning to leave, Mickey heard two more shots and ran back to the car. Martin had taken out his gun and shot two cows. "What are you doing, Billy?" Mantle asked. Martin yelled back, "We'll show that son-of-a-gun!" As I read this story it reminds me of how we can influence other people and not even realize it. We tend to think we can do things and say things and it only affects ourselves. We easily forget that there is always somebody watching us, learning from us. Ask any parent and they will tell you how their children are like sponges and how easily they can pick up on things Mom and Dad do-good and bad. It does us well to ask, "Who is in my sphere of influence and how am I influencing them, for good or bad?" Think about it.

JANITOR BIDS
Local 450's Trustees will accept bids from Local 450 members for the janitor duties at the Union Hall which includes weekly cleaning of the restrooms, kitchen area, offices and Hall. Bids must be made for the entire year of 2023, paid monthly (which includes withholding taxes, because taxes will be withheld, and you will receive a W-2 at the end of the year. If it's a business, we will need your Tax ID number and you will receive a Form 1099). Your bid must be submitted to the Union Hall no later than 4:00 PM, Tuesday, December 13, 2022. The successful bidder will be notified later. For a more detailed list of duties, call or stop by the Union Hall (283-1784).
