CHAPLAIN CHAT by Curt Forney……
A week after purchasing a pair of glasses for her husband, the wife decides to take them back to the optometrist. The person behind the counter wants to know the reason for the return so she asks, “What seems to be the problem, ma’am?” To which the wife replies: “I want a refund for these glasses…my husband’s still not seeing things my way.” We all wish, to some degree, that everybody would see things our way. We have our different opinions on politics, religion, culture, and a whole host of other things. AND we think our opinions are the right one. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but where we get into trouble is when we confuse an opinion with a conviction. Rick Warren says, “An opinion is something you hold; a conviction is something that holds you. An opinion is something you’ll argue about. A conviction is something you will suffer for and, if necessary, die for.” It’s been said, "Have convictions, but be sure your convictions are convictions, not prejudices." When it comes to convictions we should follow the advice of The Bible when it says, "Show proper respect to everyone:…fear God, honor the King" (1 Peter 2:17). Good advice, especially as we move into another political season. Think about it.
