June 2021

HAPPY FATHER'S DAY! to all Local 450 Dads on JUNE 20, 2021

Starting in May, we decided to reopen the Union Hall for events outside of normal business. While we understand that the risk is still there to contract the Covid-19 virus, with the combination of access to the vaccination and the number of new cases remaining at a low number, we will start to take bookings for events that are for our members. We will continue to monitor the numbers and watch for CDC guidance and if necessary, close for rentals if we feel that is the safest thing to do. With that being said, the requirements for Hall rentals have not changed. The event being booked needs to be for the UAW member and/or their immediate family member. If you have an interest in using your facility, please contact the Hall for availability and terms. Continue to be safe everyone!

The next Stewards Meeting will be held at 8:00 AM and the Regular Meeting at 9:00 AM on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at the Union Hall. Agenda includes regular order of business.

The Women’s Committee will be holding their Annual Bake Sale on Saturday, June 19, 2021 at 9:00 AM, before and after the Regular Meeting. Enjoy a variety of baked goodies! All sales and donations will go to the Women’s Committee.

The Shop Committee and Executive Board will be holding meetings open to all members. The meetings will be held at 7:30 am, 1:00 pm, 4:00 pm, and 6:00 pm at the Union Hall. The purpose of these meetings will be to review and discuss our current agreement and what changes the membership wants to see in the next agreement. We hope to cover all articles and sections in these meetings before our current agreement ends October 1, 2021. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 22nd and will cover Exhibit “O” and Letters, the first 10 of the Contract book.

CHAPLAIN CHAT by Curt Forney……

The story is told of a young boy who was driving a big hayrack down the road and it turned over right in front of a farmer's house. The farmer came out and saw the young boy crying and said, "Son, don't worry about this, we can fix it. Right now dinner's ready. Why don't you come in and eat with us and then I'll help you put the hay back on the rack." The boy said, "No, I can't. My father is going to be very angry with me." The farmer said, "Now don't argue, just come in and have some lunch and you'll feel better." The boy said, "I'm just afraid my father is going to be very angry with me." The farmer and the young boy went inside and had dinner. Afterwards, as they walked outside to the hayrack, the farmer said, "Well, don't you feel better now?" The boy said, "Yes, but I just know that my father will be very angry with me." The farmer said, "Nonsense. Where is your father anyway?" The boy said, "He's under that hayrack."

Dads go through a lot for their kids. Some of us had great dads, others of us, not so great. The Bible says to, “Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise: “that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.” (Ephesians 6:2-3). No matter what your father was like, it's important to honor them. Why? Maybe for no other reason except for the fact you wouldn't be here today without him. Think about it.
