CNH STRIKE UPDATE
The Strike that began on May 2, 2022 for Burlington and Racine is still going.  This weekend though the Bargaining team has brought back a Tentative Agreement for the membership to vote on.  Local 180 and Local 807 will have the opportunity to make their voices heard.  The CNH plants are owned by an Italian family, their CEO is John Elkann and his salary is $100 million a year.  They say they do not have the funds to pay the Union workers but have seemingly not had a problem bussing in workers and paying them.  To our brothers and sisters in Burlington and Racine, Local 450 stands by you.  If you would like to make a donation to the local members there, they are still in need of gas cards, and hygiene products.  Donations can be mailed to Local 807, PO Box 1094 Burlington, IA 52601.

RETIREES NOTE
The next Retirees Luncheon will be held on Wednesday, January 11th at 12:00 Noon with the menu of BBQ Pork, Cole Slaw, Beans; Meeting at 1:00 PM. With the ongoing Covid-19 Virus, no Potluck will be held. We want everyone to be safe. DO NOT BRING FOOD IN unless it’s in a store-bought prepared package/box.

CHAPLAIN CHAT by Curt Forney……
Some people seem to be mostly optimistic while others appear to be mostly pessimistic. What kind of attitude do you have? I heard a story about the parents of nine-year-old twins. One twin was very optimistic about most things that happened in life while the other was very negative. Naturally, these parents were concerned and turned to a psychologist who suggested the parents try to balance the children’s personalities. For Christmas they should give the best gifts to the negative child and the not-so-nice gifts to the positive one. He also suggested they go to the extreme and give a box of manure to the positive twin. On Christmas morning, the parents watched each child open his gifts. Sure enough, the negative child complained about the kinds and colors of his gifts and that his friends already had better gifts than these. Noticing the positive child, they heard him laughing as he reasoned: “With this much manure, I am sure there is a pony in here somewhere.” Oh, that we could have the attitude of that positive little boy. Maybe we can’t control what happens to us, but we can control how we respond. A good attitude is a choice. One of the best remedies for a bad attitude is to follow the instructions found in the Bible, "This is the day the LORD has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it!" (Psalm 118:24) As we begin a new year may we resolve to follow the advice of Psalm 118. I know it isn’t easy, but it is possible. Think about it.

2023 UAW International Run-Off Election
In accordance with results of the UAW Referendum held in the fall of 2021, the 2022 UAW International Officer Election ("Election") was conducted by secret mail-in ballot with the vote count concluding on December 2, 2022. The results are available for all members to see on the Monitor's website (uawmonitor.com). the UAW's website (www.uaw.org), and the Election Vendor's Website (www.uawvote.com). Because no candidate received a majority of votes in the races for International President, International Vice President (one of three positions), and Region 9 Director, there will be a runoff election for these races commencing immediately (the "2023 UAW International Officer Run-Off Election" or "Run-Off Election"). The candidates for these races are as follows:
INTERNATIONAL PRESIDENT
Ray Curry                  Shawn Fain
INTERNATIONAL VICE PRESIDENT
Tim Bressler          Chuck Browning
REGION 9 DIRECTOR
Lauren Farrell          Daniel Vicente
Rules and details around the Run-Off Election are forthcoming, but it is anticipated that ballots will be mailed to members starting on January 12, 2023, the deadline for the return of those ballots will be February 28, 2023, and the vote count will commence on March 1, 2023. All UAW members in good standing as of January 31, 2023, are eligible to vote in the Run-Off Election, including members who are part-time workers, reinstated members, and retired members.
